Annual Evaluation: Reflective Statement Template
This page provides prompts for completing your Faculty Annual Evaluation reflective statement. The purpose of this reflection is to discuss both successes and challenges from the evaluation year, with reference to your goals in each area, and to set goals for the upcoming year. For suggestions on how to engage in useful self-assessment and set meaningful goals, consult the guidance for self-reflection document.
For any area that is not relevant to your role, please simply note “not applicable”.
Workload:
- Please describe your allocation of effort for the evaluation year. If your effort allocation differs from the standard allocation, please explain why.
- Please describe your anticipated allocation of effort for the coming year. If this anticipated effort allocation differs from the standard allocation, please explain why.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- In this section, please describe any administrative responsibilities (e.g., DGS, DUS, program director) that you held during the evaluation year, along with a self-assessment of your activities related to this role.
- As you consider your administrative responsibilities, what goals do you have for the upcoming year?
Research and Discovery:
- In this section, please provide a summary and self-assessment of your research / scholarship activities and accomplishments for the evaluation year. As part of your self-assessment, please list your research and discovery goal(s) from the past year and provide an assessment of your progress.
- As you consider your current research agenda and portfolio, what are the tasks and objectives you would like to accomplish in the upcoming year? Please list any research goals that you have for the next year and note resources or supports that would help you to achieve these goals.
Professional Performance (Applies only to Librarians and some academic staff):
- In this section, please provide a summary and self-assessment of activities and accomplishments for the evaluation year related to professional performance. As part of your self-assessment, please list your professional performance goal(s) from the past year and provide an assessment of your progress.
- As you consider your current portfolio of responsibilities related to professional performance, what are the tasks and objectives you would like to accomplish in the upcoming year? Please list any professional performance goals that you have for the next year and note resources or supports that would help you to achieve these goals.
Teaching and Mentorship:
- In this section, please provide a summary and self-assessment of your teaching and mentoring activities and accomplishments in the evaluation year. Teaching and mentoring activities may include, but are not limited to, courses taught, course design/redesign, student committees, GTA / GRA supervision, undergraduate research supervision, and student advising. Your self-assessment should incorporate reflection on responses from student surveys of teaching and any other teaching evaluations (e.g., peer observations) that you received over the course of the evaluation year. As part of your self-assessment, please list your teaching and mentorship goal(s) from the past year and provide an assessment of your progress.
- As you consider your teaching and mentorship responsibilities, what are the tasks, objectives, and innovations you would like to accomplish this year? Please list any teaching-related goals that you have for the upcoming year and what resources or supports would help you to achieve these goals.
Service and Community Impact:
- In this section, please provide a summary and self-assessment of your service activities to the department, school, University, and field for the evaluation year. As part of your self-assessment, please list your service goal(s) from the past year and provide an assessment of your progress.
- As you consider your current service and community activities, what are the tasks and objectives you would like to accomplish this year? Please list any service goals that you have for the upcoming year.
Professional Development:
- In this section, please provide a summary and assessment of your professional development activities during the evaluation year. As part of your self-assessment, please list your professional development goal(s) from the past year and provide an assessment of your progress.
- In what areas would you like to develop or stay up to date and how will you accomplish this? For example, do you anticipate attending workshops or trainings, expanding your professional network, or engaging in specific readings? List here the professional development goals you would like to set to support your growth across all areas of your faculty work, from research and discovery to teaching and mentorship to service and community impact.
Citizenship and Culture:
- In this section, please provide a summary of your actions in the evaluation year that demonstrated support of your unit, benefitted the KU community, or promoted a positive workplace environment.
