Promotion and Tenure

Promotion and tenure recommendations are among the most important decisions made at the University. The choices that the University makes in granting promotion and tenure are vital to its endeavors toward academic excellence. Guidelines for the promotion and/or tenure process are found in department and school faculty evaluation plans and the Faculty Senate Rules and Regulations, Article VI.

The reference materials available will help to familiarize you with the basic policies and procedures associated with the promotion and tenure process at The University of Kansas.

Promotion and Tenure Annual Open Meeting

The Provost’s Office will hold its annual open meeting via ZOOM on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. for departmental and school promotion and tenure committee members, chairpersons, deans, and all interested faculty members, to discuss procedures to be followed in the preparation and review of recommendations for promotion and tenure. Members of the University Committee on Promotion and Tenure will be available to answer questions.

Ben Eggleston from the College Dean’s Office will be providing a brief overview of the process as it operates within the College and will be available to answer questions directly following the completion of our portion of the open meeting. This portion of the meeting will be a continuance of the larger ZOOM meeting so there will be no need to go to another link.

We are asking for promotion and/or tenure questions in advance, via this Qualtrics form. We will also be taking questions during the event, but submitting them in advance will help determine the focus topics. All questions are welcome and encouraged. If you cannot attend the virtual open meeting, a recording will be available for review afterwards, as well.

Guidelines for completing promotion and tenure materials, and the forms that are submitted, will be updated and posted on the Office of Faculty Affairs Promotion and Tenure webpage, so that they can be reviewed prior to the meeting.

Departmental and school promotion and tenure committee members, chairpersons, deans, and all interested faculty members are urged to attend.
