Annual Faculty Work Plan

KBOR policy indicates that each faculty member should have a work plan for the year and that in annual review process, the unit leader should evaluate the faculty member’s performance relative to the annual work plan. Work plans should clearly state the expected efforts and outcomes for the faculty member for the given year, recognizing that efforts and outcomes may be part of longer-term or multi-year projects. Work plans must specify percentage time allocations that correspond to the faculty member’s FTE status and expectations for each area of professional responsibility (e.g., teaching, research, service, professional performance).

The KU-UAKU MOA does not use the work plan terminology but addresses this aspect of KBOR policy through the description of Workload Allocation and Workload Assignment in Article 16: Workload. Specifically, this article states that workload and work assignments for each faculty member should be documented annually by the unit leader and that workload and work assignments should be considered in the assessment of performance.  Many units are already documenting workload and work assignments in their current annual evaluation processes, but some units may need to set up a structure for more formal documentation.
